As the seasons change in the Northern Hemisphere so often do our taste in cocktail recipes with the warmer summer months heralding a change to delicious fresh tasting concoctions which quench the thirst! The heavier mixes traditionally more popular in winter tend to take somewhat of a back seat.

One of the wide range of Tequila drinks which proves popular in the warm summer months is The Paloma. Fresh tasting and a real thirst quencher this cocktail recipe offers a light fruity texture which is love by many cocktail fans. Here’s a typical

Paloma Cocktail Recipe

Paloma cocktail recipe.

Slice of lemon

5g salt

1 pink grapefruit

60ml tequila

30ml lime juice

20ml sugar syrup

60ml pink grapefruit juice

20ml soda water

If you like you can use salt for rimming the glass although this is a personal preference.

For vodka lovers another lively summer cocktail recipe is the Tatanka. Here’s a typical recipe for it.

Tatanka cocktail recipe

1 apple, to decorate

40ml Zubrowka vodka

80ml fresh, cloudy apple juice

1 tsp Cinnamon sugar (equal parts sugar to cinnamon)

Crushed ice

You should not shake this drink, it is meant to be stirred. The traditional recipe would call for a unique brand of Polish vodka with a twist of apple flavour to it and a piece of bison grass in the bottle but in our experience any Vodka you like will do the job.

Pimms is another quintessential summer cocktail mix and whilst there are dozens of ways of making cocktail recipes with Pimms here’s one of our favorites.

Pimms Spritz Cocktail Recipe

Fill a tall glass with Ice

Pour 2oz Pimms over the ice

Pour 2oz your favourite gin over the ice

A twist of freshly squeezed lime

6oz of lemonade

In closing this post, as a general tip to summer cocktails you should use fresh light ingredients such as mint, lime and lemon. Happy cocktail drinking.

The Cement Mixer

Yep, you heard that right. The cement mixer! This is not so much a cocktail in all truth but an interesting sensation in any event. It is not as much about the taste as it is the texture.

All you need to do is to swirl some lime juice around in your mouth and then take a shot of Bailey’s Irish Cream. The resulting chunky curdling sensation you will get in your mouth before you wallow is not something you’ll have experienced before either. The Baileys will stick to your teeth and gums so beware!

Motor Oil

Once again folks, yep, you read it right. The following is a recipe for the cocktail, ‘motor oil’. Sounds gross but it is actually pleasant and potent as hell so don’t do too many of them or you’ll have as big a headache as if you’d consumed actual motor oil!

Mix together a shot each of Jagermeister, peppermint schnapps, cinnamon schnapps and coconut rum and trust me, it will look pretty gross but taste quite yummy.

Bourbon Treat

Mix together equal parts bourbon, peppermint schnapps, ouzo, Jagermeister, Goldschlager and blue curacao. It combines the flavors of flavors of whiskey, peppermint, black liquorice, jager, cinnamon and orange and frankly, it is really quirky and doesn’t taste that flash but the purpose of this post is to bring you some truly bizarre cocktail recipes which folks have concocted over the years.

Cocktail recipes is pleased to bring you regular posts with recipes for cocktails of all varieties using ingredients from the world over.
